About Us
Marylhurst University has one of the friendliest and safest campuses in the Portland, Oregon region. A small, private liberal arts university with more than 100 years of academic history, Marylhurst has 1300 students, with international students representing 20 countries, enrolled in language foundation, bachelor�s and master�s degree programs.
Marylhurst is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

Location (about the region)
Located next to the small city of Lake Oswego, Marylhurst is in a quiet neighborhood, surrounded by the natural splendor of Oregon. A main city bus line runs from downtown Portland directly to our campus. Mount Hood is one hour east and provides year-round skiing and snowboarding, and the beautiful Oregon Coast and beaches are one hour to the west.
Situated between urban and rural, mountains and the ocean, Marylhurst is an ideal place to experience the great American Northwest.
Session Length and Program Hours
Marylhurst is on the quarter system: fall, winter, spring and summer. Terms are usually 10 weeks.

Class Size
Marylhurst recognizes that students benefit from one-on-one interaction with their instructors. Marylhurst is #1 in the Pacific Northwest for small classes, according to US News & World Report�s 2007 Best Colleges Guide. Nearly all of Marylhurst�s classes have less than 20 students � the average class size is 12 students.

Credit Courses
Students with TOEFL scores of 550 PBT, 213 CBT, or 79 iBT and higher may apply directly to a Marylhurst University certificate or degree program. If your TOEFL score is lower, or you do not have a TOEFL score, see Special Offerings (below) for information on programs to help you improve your English proficiency while you prepare for university-level coursework.

Housing
Short term on-campus housing (up to one term). Off-campus housing options include host family living and apartments in the neighboring communities of Lake Oswego and West Linn.
Special Offerings
If your TOEFL score is between 510-549 PBT, 180-210 CBT, or 64-78 iBT, and you are seeking a bachelor�s degree, you can apply to the Language Foundation Program at Marylhurst. In this program, you�ll take three writing courses with three liberal arts courses, earning college credit toward your Marylhurst bachelor�s degree.
If your TOEFL score is below 510 PBT, 180 CBT, or 64 iBT, you can apply to the English Language Intensive Program at Pacific International Academy, located on the Marylhurst campus. Marylhurst will accept up to 18 elective credits from ESL levels 3, 4 and 5 toward your bachelor�s degree. If you do not have a TOEFL score, you may still apply to Marylhurst. You will take a language proficiency test when you arrive on our campus to determine which program is best for you. If you are interested in the MBA program at Marylhurst, the Pathways to Success Program is designed for students who need to improve their English proficiency and complete business prerequisites.
