About Us
Southwestern is a small college of approximately 1200 full time students with emphasis put on building personal relationships to include the health and well being of our students. Class sizes are small with most having 20-30 students. Southwestern offers 14 lettered sports, intramural activities, and many campus clubs. Students will find it easy to transfer to any university of their choice. Earning a transfer-degree is made easier thanks to our helpful and dedicated staff. Southwestern offers many resources including multiple computer labs, writing centers, math centers, and tutors available for any subject. Many students choose Southwestern for its location, college environment, student housing, safety, and low cost.
Mission
The mission of Southwestern Oregon Community College is to provide quality education that helps students achieve their goals. Our programs prepare people to be employable, value life-long learning, and function as good citizens in a rapidly changing world. To accomplish this mission, the college will:

Location (about the region)
Southwestern Oregon Community College is located in the heart of Oregon’s scenic south coast, an area known for its miles of open public beaches, vast forests, clear lakes, fish-filled rivers, immense sand dunes, abundant wildlife and boundless recreational opportunities. The 153-acre campus lies completely within the city of Coos Bay and is bordered on the north and east by the city of North Bend. Located on the shore of Empire Lakes in a natural tract of majestic fir trees, the College provides students with a safe, peaceful environment in which to study with access to many recreational activities.
Session Length and Program Hours
Southwestern’s academic schedule is based on the quarter system. There are three quarters (Fall, Winter, Spring) in the academic year and one quarter (Summer) during the full calendar year. Levels
Southwestern offers over 90 transferable degree types and several 1-year certificates. Southwestern offers transfer degrees such as the Oregon Associate of Arts transfer degree, an Associate of Applied Science degree, or an Associate of General Studies degree. No matter which school you plan to transfer Southwestern has the degree you are looking for.
Class Size
Southwestern’s average class size is 25-30 students. The maximum class size is 40 students.
Faculty Qualifications
All faculty have masters degrees with many having PhD’s. Southwestern has a diverse faculty and staff with various backgrounds and experiences.

Southwestern has on-campus housing! Our on-campus apartment-style student housing is required for all students from out-of-district and under the age of 21. Student housing offers a chance for students to achieve academic goals and to live and share experiences with other students in a community setting. A meal plan is included in the fees for student housing. Each room includes:

Special Offerings
Southwestern offers free tutoring labs in any subject including our most popular areas of need; writing and math. At Southwestern you will have an academic advisor and career advisor to help you with your most important decisions. The international student department also offers mentoring, assistance with jobs, studies, advising, as well as transportation.
