Location (about the region)
The OSU main campus is in Corvallis, which is consistently ranked as one of the safest university communities on the West Coast. With about 58,000 residents, Corvallis offers a friendly, university-oriented atmosphere. Miles of bike lanes and free city bus service make it easy for students to get around town. Within a short drive of Corvallis are the Pacific Ocean; the Cascade Mountains, with skiing, hiking, camping, and snowboarding; and Portland, Oregon's largest city.
Session Length and Program Hours
Oregon State University operates on a quarter system calendar. Fall Term generally begins in late September, Winter Term begins in early January, Spring Term begins late March and Summer Term begins mid-June.
Levels
Oregon State University offers over 200 majors at the Bachelor's degree level and over 80 majors at the Master's and Doctoral level. OSU also has professional programs in Pharmacy and Veterinary Medicine. Our nine colleges include Agricultural Science, Business, Education, Engineering (including computer science), Forestry, Health and Human Sciences, Liberal Arts, Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences and Science.

Faculty Qualifications
Faculty members throughout the university work closely with students in research, creative projects, university governance, and clubs and organizations. More undergraduate classes are taught by top professors with national reputations for research and teaching than at most major universities. OSU's 1,800 graduate faculty members are chosen on the basis of training, experience, research, and evidence of their ability to successfully direct and supervise graduate students.

Housing
While convenience is often the number one reason for living on campus, you'll find we offer our students much more than just a place to study and sleep. A decision to live in University Housing & Dining Services means joining the nearly 3,500 students who live on our campus and call it home. University Housing & Dining Services provides opportunities for student growth and development through educational, cultural, recreational, and social programs presented in our living/learning communities. Special Offerings
Students who need additional academic preparation before beginning an undergraduate or graduate program of study may wish to enroll in a Pathways program or Academic English offer through the INTO OSU Center located on the OSU campus. Full-time INTO OSU students take 18-21 hours per week of classes and have many optional recreational activities to enhance their stay in Corvallis. Admissions
In general, undergraduate and graduate applicants must have earned average grades of 3.0 or B or better (based on the U.S. grading scale) in order to be considered for admission. Undergraduate transfers can be admitted with a 2.5 gpa (or 2.25 for an accredited US institution). The application for admission requires: 1) a completed online application or print application (available as a .pdf), 2) Certified copies of all official transcripts, certificates, diplomas, degrees, as well as grades or mark sheets from all academic institutions you have attended. If documents are not in English, a certified translation is required. 3) Proof of English language proficiency (unless exempt): For Undergraduate Applicants, TOEFL score of 527 (paper) or 71 (internet), 6.0 IELTS, or an alternative to the TOEFL http:oregonstate.edu/admissions/international/test_scores.html 4) A completed Certification of Finances Form (available as a .pdf) 5) A bank statement that shows adequate funds to attend OSU (must be less than 9 months old at the start of the term requested), and 5. a US$50 application fee. Students who are academically qualified but whose English language skills need more work can be admitted conditionally. Depending on the initial TOEFL score, students may take full-time or part-time English classes at INTO OSU, located on the OSU campus. Graduate applications require additional information such as: 1) a statement of purpose, 2) letters of recommendation, and 3) Test scores (e.g. GRE or GMAT in certain programs) and TOEFL scores (min. requirements vary by department). Graduate applicants should refer to their prospective department's web site to determine application deadlines, admission terms, and any additional admission requirements.
