About Us
Founded in 1905, Concordia University is a private Christian liberal arts university located in beautiful Portland, Oregon. With a student population of approximately 1,600 students, our students thrive on the individual attention they receive from faculty and staff. Concordia is located in a quiet residential neighborhood in Northeast Portland with easy access to downtown.
Session Length and Program Hours
Concordia has a full range of undergraduate programs and degrees in addition to graduate programs in education and business. Students who wish to study English as a second language can do so on our campus through ELS. We also have special transfer agreements for ELS students to continue their studies with Concordia. Ask us how you can do this.
Levels
The ELS on our campus offers classes for all levels of language learners.
Class Size
ELS classes average 10 students. Undergradaute and graduate classes average 14 students.
Faculty Qualifications
Professors hold Master level degrees and higher in thier area of study.
Credit Courses
Concordia offers over 42 majors including: Bachelor degrees in Business, Education and Nursing.
Housing
With four distinct residence halls to choose from, students are able to find the appropriate housing for their specifics needs. Whether you prefer a traditional residence hall with a common restroom "down the hall" or one of the newer residential suites with private restrooms, we are proud to offer some of the finest facilities in the Pacific Northwest. Each room is furnished with beds, desks, closets, dressers, bookshelves, a microwave and refrigerator/freezer unit. Monthly local phone service and voice mail is provided at no cost, but students need to bring their own phone. In addition, every room has computer hook-ups for e-mail/Internet access. Cable is available in every room for a monthly fee. Each residence hall has coin-operated laundry facilities and a community lounge with TV and basic cable service.
Special Offerings
The faculty of the M.Ed program in TESL offer a three-week intensive certificate program in TESL each summer. This program is well suited for international teachers who wish to improve their English and their teaching skills. Tuition for this program is $900. Concordia will also offer a new program titled "English for Nurses." This program is specifically designed for nurses from around the world who wish to improve their English skills especially in the area of health care communication. Courses will be taught by registered nurses and professional ESL instructors.
